Alto Farms

Mission

Alto Farms is a New Jersey-based company with a two-pronged mission:

  1. Hydroponically grow high quality, specialty crops for the high-end market
  2. Establish strong local connections to provide specialized job training, affordable fresh produce and other community-determined services.
    1. Hire and train locally, providing specialized job training and educational opportunities to the local community.
    2. Grow hydroponic, nutritious foods at high densities to provide affordable fresh produce to the local communities, especially low-income families who struggle to incorporate healthy fresh produce into their diet.

About Alto

Alto Farms will be a modern, efficient vertical urban farm developed to meet the needs of the community with locally grown premium and affordable produce while providing training and education on fruit, vegetables and agriculture to staff and the local community. By utilizing vertical growing space, large volumes of fresh produce can be produced in a small area aiming to meet the ever-growing demand for locally grown produce in the northern NJ and NYC areas.

Alto Farms, developed by me and several business partners, will be partnered with Millennial Mark development company and local NGOs to not only provide fresh produce to the surrounding area but also address local community problems. Our team will use state-of-the-art farming technology, efficient and sustainable energy practices and stringent food safety and agricultural practices to grow fresh produce without dangerous and harmful chemical inputs. We are committed to providing fresh produce that is not only excellent quality and highly nutritious but also affordable.

Products

Alto Farms plans to grow a variety of fresh produce including but not limited to:

  • Strawberries
  • Micro-greens (including basil, arugula, romaine lettuce, swiss chard, chia, mustard greens, fennel, amaranth, radish, watercress, broccoli rapa, etc)
  • Lettuce
  • Herbs (including basil)

Financial considerations

Our team is seeking short- and long-term funding to finance the purchase of vertical farming growing systems and other development costs associated with a start-up urban farm including rent, utilities, labor, legal, etc.  We aim to begin production within three months of securing our first round of funding and to turn a profit within two years of operating.
